Swimming at South Elmham Lake – Wild Swimming in Suffolk

Enjoy wild swimming at South Elmham Lake, a private, pre-booked open water swimming spot near the Waveney Valley on the Norfolk–Suffolk border. The lake is known for its excellent water quality, regularly tested and open from June to October.

Our beautiful, secluded one-acre lake sits in a wildflower meadow surrounded by mature trees, creating the perfect setting for peaceful outdoor swimming. You can book open or private group swim sessions for 2–12 people online.

Open swim sessions start from £15 for two swimmers for one hour, with extra swimmers at a small additional cost. Private sessions start from £40 for one hour or £60 for two hours. All swims must be pre-booked, and your group should be confident swimmers, as the lake is deep throughout.

Before your first swim, please watch our safety video. There is basic changing space on-site, and parking is a short walk from the lake. South Elmham Lake offers crystal-clear water, rich wildlife, and the calming sounds of nature — a true wild swimming experience in the Suffolk countryside.

About Susie – Wild Swimming at South Elmham Lake

Hi, I’m Susie — I’ve loved open water swimming since childhood, growing up on the Isle of Wight and spending summer days in the sea. Wherever I go, I always keep a swimsuit and towel ready, just in case I find a perfect wild swimming spot. My family knows that any trip near a beach, lake, or river usually means stopping for a swim!

Over the years, my children have joined me too. Once they watched from the shore, but now they swim beside me in wetsuits — our family rule is simple: never miss a chance to swim.

For years, I’ve enjoyed swimming in the beautiful trout lakes on our family farm here at South Elmham Lake. I love the peace, the fresh air, and the feeling of being close to nature.

What started as my private passion has grown into something I’m thrilled to share. Now, you can experience wild swimming here too, in a safe and natural environment surrounded by Suffolk countryside.

We’ve kept things simple and friendly, with clear safety guidelines and videos to watch before your first visit. My goal is to help more people discover the joy of wild swimming while promoting water safety for everyone.
